i ve used torrents over the years ,

i ve used various torrent clients and never seen such a thing before

i was downloading a torrent of a series of 8 episodes or so

as in anything else when the download is even partly done you can check

the files , im talking videos here , to check quality etc to ensure you

want to go any further

well out of i think 8 episodes the 1st 2 had completed enough, so i

checked them in my

media player , in this case VLC , well the 1st 2 episodes were 2 episodes

of sesame street and not the episodes i had queued

i was about to abort the entire download to not waste ratio , but let the

rest continue

and now as other episodes are in progress those 1st 2 are now the 1st 2

episodes of what i expected them to be

, but now another episode in the queue is from another show

that i id not queue

i ve googled this one to death and personally messaged friends

who think im bound for the muppet wing

im not sure whether i can mention the torrent site or the file names

so i wint and i dont think names are relevant anyhow ?

any ideas how this may happen ?

Thanks

I am not sure how it is happening, but I have had similar experience.

Someone posted at another forum about a partial torrent video download showing another program when it was played in VLC. So I started a video torrent just to see and VLC did the same thing. I also tried with GOM player and it played another video.

For this person and I, the videos it played were on our computers, but were not anything we had played recently.

Were the videos that played (wrongly) on your computer?

Gotta make sure the person you are donwloading from is reputable.

Its like downloading porn and getting the you need codecs message but its not actuallyt he codecs message its a link to a website, basically spam.

What im saying is you downloaded spam instead of the video you thought you were going to get. Atleast that is what is sounds like. Gotta check comments before you download. Look for people with high post counts that say, hay great vid thumbs up, 10/10 video 10/10 audio, nice rip etc. Or they may say, trojan detected, spam, crappy upload, dont bother etc.

and lastly Never open a file until you have fully scanned it for both malware and virus. You alreayd know what the quality is. R5, Xvid, Screener etc. You shouldnt have to check if you download from a reputable person.

Thanks to all for replies

Im not sure if im able to mention the torrent site im

getting these files from , but i can promise its a reputable

site of a few years now

Once the file(s) have completed they are what they are suppose to

be , but just a few play as some totally different thing when

played while in progress

Odd thing is im new to this site and it seems i dont have posting

messages etc privileges yet , thats one reason i posted here

Any more input is appreciated

Cheers

I guess I was basically saying it is not the files being downloaded, but a glitch in the media players. I have tested it with several media players and had the issue. I still have no idea how it is happening.

You can name the site, but if it is a private site, it is almost certain the downloads are clean and real.

Were the videos being played before the download was complete on your computer?
