i received a warning letter today in gmail saying i've violated copyright laws by downloading a particular movie. personally, i don't believe in copyright infringement due to the fact of there being dvd rippers and programs like windows media player which rips cds. torrent files are just that: ripped video/audio content on legally bought hardware and then shared via the web. what's the difference between sharing movies and music online as compared to a friend ripping a vid for me and putting it in my hand? the web just acts like a long arm that can reach hundreds or thousands of miles to give it to you. torrent clients are just what they say they are: media SHARING programs. the same way you'd rip a vid and give it away. the movie companies and actors don't get paid that way either. too bad for them. it's not my fault. but it's a dirty way to get it back by accusing torrent users that they're "stealing", "pirating", "infringing" and suing them. torrent users are the only ones they can harass. if they want to keep all the money the right way, they should sue and have shut down all the torrent client vendors, torrent file providers, and there should be a law against producing dvd rippers. are these people f...ing stupid or what? they can take their infringement accusation and shove it. to a sane judge he would throw the case out before it began. put me in a courtroom and i'll tell a movie exec where they can stick their accusation. i am supremely pissed.
