hello everyone...
I get a pop-up box telling me there is a new version of utorrent and would i like to download it.
But can you do this when you still have torrents "seeding" or "downloading" which i always seem to be doing, and never get the chance to download the newer version.....
Thankyou for any replys in advance.... _________________ Windows XP / Windows vista home premium/ UTORRENT CLIENT.../ Windows 7 home premium |

The install will close uTorrent temporarily. However, the install takes only a few seconds.
You can always download separate from the program and install when you have some dead time on your torrents.

You got it.
I would stay away from the beta. There have been issues for people on the uTorrent beta releases-which is why they are betas.
Anyhow, the 18488 update just fixes a few minor glitches, which may not even affect you. So there is no rush to install, unless you are having issues.
- 2010-03-05: Version 2.0 (build 18488)
- Fix: Fixed half-open limit on Windows 7
- Fix: Fixed bug where uTorrent could freeze on broken web UI requests
- Fix: Fixed bug in uTP header field layout
The 18296 update fixed a fairly serious bug in uTP
- 2010-02-22: Version 2.0 (build 18296)
- Fix: uTP sampling error (caused speed drops every 60 seconds)

Great jeffw, thanks for the added information about the updates.
I have just installed this on a second laptop of mine...
There's one thing that been confusing me ever since i started using utorrent, and thats the directories, now i could just use the same directories i have on the vista machine, but i am not sure even thats right, i only have two directories on that and thats for when i download a new torrent file and the other is for where the contents of that file go when its downloaded....
I have looked at utorrent help, but it still confuses me, can you if possable Clarify the directories settings for me.... _________________ Windows XP / Windows vista home premium/ UTORRENT CLIENT.../ Windows 7 home premium |

If I understand you right, I have essentially the same settings as you under Directories.
I have the options to Put new downloads in and to Store .torrents in both enabled and set to a directory.
The options there, starting from the top:
Put new downloads in allows you to set a download directory for the content associated with the ,torrent file. If not enabled, My Documents\Downloads is the default. I have this set to My Documents\uTorrent Downloads.
Always show dialog on manual add makes is so uTorrent shows the add torrent box, which primarily allows you to select which files to download, but also allows you to set a different download destination and set a label for the torrent.
Move completed torrents will have uTorrent automatically move the content after the download is complete. You can set the directory for this if it is enabled. Many people like to separate the incomplete downloads from the complete.
Append the torrent's label can be enabled if you have enabled the move completed option above. This allows you to set sub-directories for your content. So if you want to move completed torrents to the My Documents\Completed Torrents, but want to separate the music into its own folder there, you would give the torrent the label Music when adding (the always show dialog option above should be enabled to do this). uTorrent will then move a torrent labeled "Music" to My Documents\Completed Torrents\Music.
You can set sub-directories within that Music file by adding to the path in the label as in "Music\Jazz". This would move content with that label to My Documents\Completed Torrents\Music\Jazz.
Store torrents in sets a directory to store the .torrent file you have opened in uTorrent. If not enabled, the torrent file is stored in the uTorrent Application Data folder. I find it easier to set this in My Documents\Torrents.
Move completed torrents is like the move option for the associated content above. Some people like to keep their incomplete and complete torrent files separate.
Automatically load torrents from sets a directory where uTorrent will automatically start the torrent once a torrent is saved there. Some people like this option as they do not want to label or choose files and this saves a step.
The directory must be different from either the store or move torrent file directories just above.
If you set My Documents\New Torrents as the directory, when you save a torrent download to that directory, then uTorrent will start the torrent without any further action from you.
Delete loaded torrents has uTorrent delete the torrent from the auto load directory after it has been loaded. This is to prevent uTorrent from re-loading the torrent. The torrent will still be in the Directory you set to store torrents in. In my case that would be My Documents\Torrents.
If this option is not enabled, uTorrent adds the extension .loaded to the .torrent file to keep from re-loading.
If you set an auto load directory, then I would have this option enabled as you would have duplicate copies of the torrent file otherwise.
Well, that was pretty wordy. I hope it makes sense. let me know if you have any Qs. |
